Romeo Y Julieta 1875 Reserve – The Best Review

This is the best review for Romeo Y Julieta 1875 Reserve Cigar.  I recently purchased a box of these cigars to see if it would be a good mix for my humidor. It is more of a mild to mellow cigar and therefore it is not a strong cigar. So, this is a good addition to my collection. Read more to find out how this could be your next favorite cigar.

Romeo Y Julieta 1875 Reserve - The Beginning

The Romeo and Juliet a family of cigars has been around quite a long time. They are known to have a wide range of cigars from very mild to very strong. I am drawn to these cigars because the mellow cigars are perfectly blended.  However, they have some cigars that pack a really nice punch such as the signature Romeo Y Julieta Nicaraguan.  You can read my post on this one here.

The wrapper of the cigar is Ecuadorian Connecticut. The binder is Nicaraguan and the filler is Honduran/Nicaraguan. This makes for an extremely mellow smoke that is amazingly flavorful.

Romeo Y Julieta 1875 Reserve - The Smoke

The First Third

Lighting the cigar reveals an earthy and peppery to taste.  Subsequently, The draw of the cigar is very smooth.  Light smoke billows out from the cigar and has a great flavor.  I pour a nice two fingers of Weller Special Reserve Bourbon. The ice for the Welller is made out of limestone Kentucky water.  This bourbon blends perfect with this cigar.  The mellowness of the cigar is coupled perfectly with the strength of the bourbon. Both are very smooth and complement each other very well.

Romeo y Julieta 1875 reserveAs you can tell from the picture, the cigar is very well-made and the beginning of the cigar smoke went perfect. After lighting the cigar the ring that was lit did very well and remained even throughout the first third of the cigar smoking. Also the ash stays on the cigar nicely.   Having said that it means that I only had to knock off the ash about 4 times throughout the entire smoke.  This is because the cigar is made nice with the wrapper, filler and binder put together perfectly.

The Second Third

Romeo y Julieta 1875 reserve Moving onto the middle third of the cigar.  I can appreciate more of a tobacco harshness and or flavor.  This stogie isn’t harsh but it is a stronger tobacco flavor in the middle.  But still keeping the mellow taste.   As the cigar burns the smoke is very steady and mild. The bourbon has a sweet cherry flavor that goes with the cigars earthy taste. They are both going down in equal parts and finish well.

The Final Third

Romeo y Julieta 1875 reserveNow onto the last third of the cigar. As I make my way down to the wrapper of the cigar I’m noticing a little bit more stronger flavors. It is still a very mellow cigar and I don’t taste much harshness out of the cigar at this part. The pepper taste flows straight through the entire cigar.  However, the tobacco flavor became stronger in the middle of the cigar. The aftertaste became more of a peppery flavor and I think that it couples very nicely with the Weller Special Reserve bourbon I was drinking.

Incidentally I forgot to mention that I cut the cigar with a double guillotine cut cigar cutter that you can find at the famous smoke shop by clicking here. Furthermore, I always use a vertigo lighter and that remain the same for this cigar. I only had to light the cigar once and then I think I only had to relight the cigar at the middle third. It was not that the cigar went out on me completely I just needed to burn the edges so it would smoke more evenly.

In closing I believe this cigar is a very good cigar to keep for after dinner with a really nice bourbon. It is a very mellow cigar as noted above but it also has a nice punch to make it a perfect after dinner treat. I hope this is a very good review and you can find these at the famous smokeshop by clicking here.

All the best,

Dr. B
