romeo y julieta 1875 nicaraguan review

Romeo Y Julieta is a cigar brand that is well known throughout the world.  Hence, their track record of great cigars is well known.  I have enjoyed Romeo Y Julieta cigars for years and have always loved the 1875’s.  So, This past year I purchased the Nicaragua 1875 and was extremely amazed.  From the packaging to the ease of lighting and the flavor.

Altadis U.S.A brings you the Romeo & Julieta 1875.  This is it’s first Nicaraguan cigar and it is made by Plasencia Cigars.  It was first available in 2018.  Further, these cigars are a medium brown color with a beautiful orange band.  Tobacco for this cigar is 100% Nicaraguan tobacco.

Interesting note:  The 1875 name in the cigar is a reference to the year that the Romeo Y Julieta brand was established in Cuba.

Sizes Available

I purchased these cigars from Famous Smoke Shop.  In addition, it was standard shipping delivery and a 28% discount on the box.  They came in perfectly humidified by a Boveda packet.  Also, packaging was great and the entire box was protected with air wrap.  You can check out how to get these cigars here.

Romeo Y Julieta 1875 Nicaragua Review - Packaging

The packaging of this beautiful cigar is quite nice.  It is an orange box with gold trim.  The cigars are stacked nicely and with a Boded pack for optimum humidity control.  There is a two ring band on the cigar.  The larger band that has the Romeo Y Julieta Brand name.  In addition, there is a smaller band close to the body of the cigar.

Romeo Y Julieta 1875 Nicaragua Review - The Smoke

romeo y juilieta 1875 nicaraguan review

The cigar was a magnum and it was smoked on a nice warm day.  The cigar was a slight oily wrapper.  Further, the cigar was slightly firm and no cracking with rolling the cigar in your fingers.

When it came time to smoke the cap was cut cut with a double guillotine cutter.  Nice smooth cut without issues.  Humidity of the cigar was perfect and no destruction of the cap as it came off quickly.  The toasting of the cigar was with a Cohiba lighter and it lit nicely and evenly.

Smoking took about an hour and 15 minutes.  The cigar smoked evenly without any sort of abnormal draw.  There were two episodes of relighting but that was my fault.  I was into a good magazine article and that allowed the cigar to go out and needed to be relit.

Beginning Of The Cigar.

The flavor of the cigar was mild in the beginning.  As always it takes a puff or two to empty the palate and prepare for the smoke.  Once into the smoke the flavor was earthy and leathery.  Not a lot of spice in the beginning.  Draw was good also.

Middle Of The Cigar.

This part of the cigar became a little spicy for me.  Not too much but not too less either.  The smoke was good and the draw remained nice.  However, I was involved in a Cigar Aficionado magazine and had to relight the middle on two different occasions.  Nonetheless it was easy to relight and the earthy tones remained.

End Of the Cigar.

This cigar became slightly spicy by the end of the cigar. No issues with the cigar remaining lit.  However, the middle band does get in the way of the smoke.  As I removed the band so I could smoke the last third it did not tear the wrapper either.  On other cigars I have encountered the middle bands getting stuck to the wrapper, but not with this cigar.  As I finished the cigar the smoke decreased a little but the flavor remained.  When I finished it made me want another, but it was time to grill the steaks.

In Summary

Finally, the Romeo Y Julieta 1875 Nicaragua Review has brought to light the elements of this great cigar.  It is 100% Nicaraguan tobacco made by Plasencia for Altadis.  It comes in 4 sizes and I like the Magnum the best.  This cigar is really smooth and little spice at the end.  It is packaged beautifully and nicely humidified.

Cutting and lighting the cigar was easy without issues.  The draw was nice and no issues with the cigar going out.  Except when I got involved with my Cigar Aficionado magazine article.  Relighting was easy enough and the cigar finished nicely.  I just purchased another box here at The Famous Smoke.  So check it out here for free shipping and 28% discount.

All The Best,

Doctor B.
