I have never smoked a My Father Cigars, until recently.  Enjoying this cigar was a very shocking experience, because the cigar is absolutely great.  Flor De Las Antillas means Flower of the Antilles.   This cigar is a tribute to the largest island of the Greater Antilles.  It was released in 2012 and quickly became a favorite.  Further, it was awarded the cigar of the year by Cigar Aficionado that year.  Flor De Las Antillas Toro received a 96/100 score. “Delicious from the first puff, with notes of nutmeg, white pepper and just enough strength without being overpowering. They are hard to put down.” CA

My Father Cigars are based out of Nicaragua and made by the Garcia family. The Garcia family has a long history of cigar making.  Flor De Las Antillas tobacco is a Nicaraguan blend and the wrapper is a Sun Grown wrapper.  A box-pressed cigar makes it nice to hold and a perfect cigar to enjoy because of the  rectangular shape.  Each cigar is individually wrapped with a red ribbon along the foot.  By the way, I think this was a nice touch.

Greeting you from the outside is a dark brown Nicaraguan Sun Grown wrapper.  Perfectly humidified from The Famous Smoke Shop.

Made of Nicaraguan long-fillers and binder makes this cigar exceptionally balanced and smooth.  Therefore, each Flor de las Antillas delivers a distinct array of flavors, including notes of cocoa, sweet cedar, and a slight earthy flavor that is nice.

Where Purchased

I bought these gems from The Famous Smoke Shop as that is where I buy most of my cigars.   They always come nicely packed and perfectly humidified.  Further, if there is a damaged cigar you can always send it back for an exchange.  Check out their inventory here.

The Smoke

Preparing The Cigar

It was a nice fall day and the sun was out so it wasn’t too hot.  The cigar with it’s box-pressed shape was nice to see.  In addition, the  brownish color was consistent without any blemishes on the cigar.  The cap was cut with a nice guillotine cutter.  The double blade cutter is always great as it makes a nice smooth cut.  So,  You can find a great one here.

The foot was toasted nicely as the TV was warming up for the golf channel.  I used a torch lighter by Vertigo and these lighters always have a lifetime guarantee.  I have others, but I really like this lighter that you can see here.

Beginning Of The Cigar

My Father's Cigar Flor De Las Antillas

The first draw was nice and smooth.  In addition, the smoke was good and not too much or too little.  The cigar fits perfectly in your hand and I think that is due to the box-pressed nature of the cigar.  Further, the draw was nice and clean and remained that way throughout the first part of the cigar.  Hence, smooth flavors of cedar and earth.

Middle Of The Cigar

I had to reshape the cigar as the wrapper burnt down a little on one end.  However, there was some wind outside so I expected that to occur.  No biggie as it lit the other end without issue.  The smoke was smooth and not overpowering.  Furthermore, the flavor remained cedar with now a pepper flavor and not as much of the earthy taste.

End Of The Cigar

The final third of the cigar was so good that I took the wrapper off to enjoy it longer.  Taste came full circle with all flavors of earth, cedar and pepper.  The golf game was more involved and the sun was out still.  No need to light a fireplace fire as before I knew it I was finished.  Beverage of the afternoon was a nice Stagg Jr. Bourbon.  Enough said.
