Cigars And Stogies

Arturo Fuente Double Chateau

Arturo Fuente Double Chateau – Another Great One

Arturo Fuente Double Chateau is another great cigar from the Arturo Fuente family.  If you are new to cigars and don’t know much you probably still know the Arturo Fuente family name.   They are everywhere in the cigar world and with good reason.  Cigars by the Fuente family are always amazing.

I remember in my early days saving up my money to buy the cheapest Fuente (Curly Head).  At that time I remember sharing them with my buddies in medical school and everyone was amazed at how great they tasted.  That was my first introduction to Fuente cigars and I have purchased many more over the years.

I remember the first time I had an Arturo Fuente Double Chateau.  My good buddy Bill and I had a Double Chateau years ago at his boat “Sirena”.  It was an amazing weekend of fun and sun with the wives and the cigar was a great finishing note to a weekend of fun.

So when I recently purchased cigars for my humidor I remembered that weekend and I bought a box of Double Chateaus.  I am always buying more cigars than I need to because I have this free standing humidor.  It holds a lot of cigars so it is perfect for me.  If you are looking for a free standing humidor then Check out my humidor post here.

Arturo Fuente Double Chateau - The Box

What a busy day at work!  I am home and tired but when I walk into the kitchen I see a delivery box.  I perk up immediately when I see that the box is my cigar shipment from the Famous Smoke Shop.

Inside is my bounty of cigars.  The Arturo Fuente Double Chateau  among others purchased.  The cigar box is beautiful with nice decorations as you can tell from the picture above.  Inside each cigar is individually wrapped in cedar.  Furthermore, each cigar is in its own tray, which is a nice touch.  I remove the humdification pouch and put it also in the humidor for later use.

Don’t forget to reuse the humidification Boveda packs.  That’s right.  Every time they come in a box of cigars and they are soft, which means they are in good working condition.  I put them in the humidor and take them out when traveling with cigars so it can keep them humidified.  Remember when the pack becomes hard like a rock and not able to bend then throw it away.

A Good Book - Scotch - Stogie

One day sitting in my office and doing some reading I decide today is the day for the Double Chateau.  The cigar is perfectly humidified and I turn on the exhaust system in the cigar room to enjoy my stogie in my office.

I am reading “Maverick” which is the biography of Thomas Sowell written by Jason Riley.  I like Jason Riley as I read his op-eds in the Wall Street Journal.  Great read and a perfect cigar to go with the book.

Maverick

There are so many great quotes and very interesting stories of Thomas Sowell’s life.  Not only does it touch on his stellar career in Academia but also his humble upbringing and how he went to college after being in the military.

Such a refreshing story how he accomplished so much in Academia and wrote so many books.  I was amazed to read that in his younger years he was a Marxist/Socialist and then became a Capitalist as he studied more.  His life has been a controversial one as he has never been afraid to say what he believes.

There are many interviews and debates that you can find on the internet.  As you watch them it is amazing to realize how nobody is in the same league as him with intellect.  Anyway, the book is great and you can find it here on Amazon.

Time To Fire It Up

Arturo Fuente Double ChateauThe Arturo Fuente Double Chateau comes in a sungrown, maduro and natural wrapper.  I bought the natural wrapper and the smell of the cigar is mild.  Good flavor before the light.  You can taste a mild tobacco flavor with the wrapper.  Not too big or too small.  It is a 6 3/4 inch with 50 ring.  Nice size for sitting and relaxing.

As always I use the Vertigo lighter to fire it up.  After a double guillotine cut the cigar is lit.  The first draw is nice and smooth.  The cigar is made well as it has a nice draw that is neither too fast or too slow.  The billowing smoke is silver and has a great scent in the air.

Making the entire hour and half of reading with a cigar perfect is the fact that I am sipping an Oban 14 year old scotch.  That is a nice touch with this cigar.

The First Half

As I sit and enjoy the cigar and learn more about Thomas Sowell I realize the cigar has an undeniably smoothness.  I mean that as I enjoy the cigar it seems like it just blends with the day.  Nice smooth cigar being enjoyed on a beautiful day and at the right time.  It just fits.

cigar shapes and sizes

The tasting notes on the first half are of nutmeg and pepper.  Tobacco is mild so it is not too harsh on the palate and overall blends nicely.  Oban intensifies the flavors of both the cigar and scotch with each sip.  A perfect pairing today.

The Second Half

As the cigar comes to the second half there is NO hint of heat.  What I mean is that some cigars as you get to the end it becomes hot and the tastes like tar.  That does not happen with this cigar.  Nice and smooth from start to finish.  Exactly what one would expect from an Arturo Fuente Double Chateau.  Tasting notes continue with the mild nutmeg and pepper throughout.  Just enough to say wow that was perfect and did not overpower any part of the experience.

Cigars and Stogies

The cigar is winding down and I don’t want to partake in too much Oban.  So as it comes to a close I get through at least a quarter of my book.  Sorry Jason I will have to read more on a later date.  Now it is time for me to do some grilling on the barbecue.  It is steak night and a good cabernet to go with the steak.  Maybe I need an after dinner Fuente?  Nah…  I will just keep this one in my memory and have another soon enough.

All the best,

Dr. B
